Unseen Thailand at Sah Morrakot (Emerald Pool)Thinking about the rustic wooden bridge partly hidden among lush, green fauna growing wild, I was suddenly overwhelmed with a sense of happiness. Not wanting this to be just a fickle of my imagination, my friends and I got together and decided to see the real thing at ‘Sa Morrakot’ or Emerald Pool located within the wildlife sanctuary at Amphur Klong Tom, Krabi Province. The scenery along the nature trail from Emerald Pool to Underground Spring Pool was also breath-taking. Those who have walked these paths couldn’t help but fall in love with the lushness of the forest, the clean air and the sounds of the birds that made this place a paradise. We started the journey through an open forest till we came upon the Emerald Pool, one of Unseen Thailand’s top attractions and highlight of this forest. The water is so clear you can see the bottom of the pool that range from one to two meters deep. Today’s activity was both fun and relaxing, but mostly relaxing because the forest atmosphere filled with trees, ferns and wild orchids were so amazing. We also learned a lot from reading signs that explained about each species of plants along the way. We agreed to go all the way to the end of the path then come back for a swim in the Emerald Pool because it was so beautiful we wanted to take our time there. The pool’s water temperature was a nice 30-50 degree Celsius, quite warm because it originated from a hot-spring beneath the ground. How can anyone resist soaking in this clean, therapeutic water? From the Emerald Pool, we came upon the Underground Spring Pool from where the Emerald Pool originated. Water springs from beneath the ground because of a crack on the earth’s surface. And whenever someone claps their hands loudly beside the pool, they will see more water spurting out. There is a legend about this pool which people believed to be a place where the mythical creatures ‘Kinnarees’ came to bathe. But actually, the emerald color really comes from a mixture of minerals in the water. The pools really are the most beautiful part of this forest which made us appreciate nature even more. The trip today has been absolutely wonderful from beginning to end, everything from the trails to the forest and the lovely water.
