Eco Tourism at Sirinat National Park, Phuket
Whenever one hears the word ‘Phuket’, the first image that pops into mind is one of fine sandy beach, sparkling clear ocean and picturesque, secluded islands. However, there is one other fascinating place called Sirinat National Park located just one kilometer from the airport that is very interesting to visit as well.
This marine national park is neither too large nor small as it covers a total area of 56,250 rais or equivalent to 90 square kilometers. Of this, 76% is water while 24% is land.
The surrounding vicinity is home to a large variety of animal and plant species, both living on land and under the sea. For this reason, it is an ideal place to enjoy beautiful sceneries while learning about nature preservation and the on-going circle of life.
Here, pure and natural beauty abounds. There are rows upon rows of pine trees, talcum powder-white sand, healthy coral reefs and artistic rock boulders that exist in harmony. And in the more secluded parts of the beach, gentle sea-turtles come to lay eggs. Apart from the land and sea that is inhabited by wildlife, the sky is a roaming ground for myriads of fascinating bird species.
For those looking for a beach to chill-out in after a morning of wild-life spotting, the national park will not disappoint. You could go to the smaller beaches like Naiyang, Naiton, Naiton Noi Beaches and Hin Gruai Bay or longer ones like Saikaew and Mai Khao Beaches.
Naiton Beach is idyllic if you’re looking for peace and serenity, plus the shallow water area is great for swimming. The beach has a slight curve lined with pineapple-like plants that is strangely pleasing to the eye. For all these reasons, some visitors have named it ‘The Forgotten Beauty’ of Phuket.
The national park’s headquarter is located at Nai Yang Beach. From the entrance, you could see pine trees shading the ground, creating different patterns on the sand. Once you reach the center of the beach, a welcoming atmosphere of soft sand, small ripples of the waves and a sense of peacefulness just fills the space.
Under the cool shade of huge pine trees, visitors find refuge from the blazing sun and settle down on their mats. Many are enjoying picnic lunch brought from home while others just order from shops and vendors nearby. It’s the kind of happiness in life that’s so easy to find if you just reach out for it.
This place is really perfect for relaxation and letting the mind unwind. But that’s not all, you get to exercise and gain knowledge as an added bonus. It’s the kind of environment that’s ideal for a relaxing family outing.
For the next family get together, why not bring everyone here? Pack a large mat and big basket of family favorites and just enjoy a feast by the sea. The change of scenery is guaranteed to please all family members, whether grandparents or grandchildren.
Spending a fun-filled day here is great but do keep in mind that this is a national park and certain rules apply. Be sure to keep your voice down, don’t litter and avoid interfering with nature as much as possible. With everyone’s cooperation, nature will remain unspoiled for the next generation to come.
