8 Must Things to do whilst in Phuket Diving and Snorkeling In Phuket snorkelling and diving have become synonymous with each other. The ocean surrounding Phuket with its warm waters, clear visibility, and untold varieties of marine life, all help explain why Phuket is one of the top diving destinations in the world. Most beaches in Phuket are perfect for snorkelling. However, the months of October to April are best for visibility as the sea is at its calmest. Diving is Phuket’s number one tourism-based industry, and the dive tour operators are literally situated around every corner. Phuket Trekking If you’re looking to try something different whilst you’re here in Phuket, try a trek through its tropical rain forest and beautiful countryside. If you travel to the North of Phuket you will find Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. The park covers an area of approximately 22 sq kms and is Phuket’s last area of virgin rainforest and is home to protected species of wild animals. The national park has several forest trails for hiking and guides can be hired from the reserve office. Phuket Cable Ski There is one water sport you can do away from the beaches here on Phuket. Phuket Cable Ski is the only Wake Park in Phuket and it is here that you can enjoy one of the most fun and challenging activities you’re likely to find on the island. At Phuket Cable Ski you can be towed around a 410 meters long, 110 meters wide course at a speed of 28 -58 kilometers per hour, depending on your experience. It’s ideal for both beginners and experienced skiers. Elephant Trekking Tour One of the most enjoyable activities to do whilst visiting Phuket is an elephant trekking tour. It is probably the favourite activity among both foreign and Thai visitors. You will have an opportunity to ride a domesticated and gentle elephant through the untouched Phuket jungle. At the elephant camp, during the tour, you will have an opportunity to enjoy an elephant show which includes watching them play football, dancing and painting. You will also be able to take them to bath in a stream. Kayaking Kayaking in the areas surrounding Phuket is a once in a lifetime experience. Take the opportunity to explore either in a traditional kayak or a purpose-designed inflatable canoe and you will be captivated by a world you never knew existed. The canoes will take you through a mesmerizing maze of almost surreal crystalline limestone caves which are known in the local language as “hongs” – a myriad of caves, tunnels and interior lagoons. Cooking Class Learn to make some of that fabulous food Thailand is so famous for while you are on holiday in Phuket. If you love the flavour of Thai food, and want to be able to cook the same food, by spending a couple of hours at a Thai Cooking Classes in Phuket you will be able to cook up a delicious Thai meal for your family and friends. Many of the hotels and especially the large luxury resorts offer in-house classes but if the style or format does not suit there are plenty of private classes to choose from. Helicopter Tour See Phuket Island like you’ve never seen it before, take a ride 100 feet from the ground and experience the magnificent view of the Pearl of the Andaman. Nothing else comes close to touching the magic of vertical flight; from the moment you lift into the air to the second the helicopter settles gracefully back on the ground it is a truly exciting and unforgettable experience. Helicopter sightseeing is an experience out of the ordinary. This is an encounter never to be forgotten and an unusual gift idea that will suit anyone. Sightseeing Tour Through one of the many tour operators on the island you can book a tour which offers a cultural and scenic treat of Phuket Island. Visit Phuket’s many view points, located along the scenic coastline. Then tour Phuket Town where you can view centuries-old Sino-Portuguese buildings, a combination of modern Thai, Chinese and Portuguese style. If you want to explore your spiritual side or how others view their own spiritual side you will definitely want to add temples to your sightseeing in Phuket list. This is only a small example of the many things you can do whilst staying on “The Pearl of the Andaman”. If you wish to try any of our suggestions or are interested in other tours or activities please visit the tour desk in your resort or one of the many tour operators who can be found all over the island. We welcome donations from everyone and would like to invite individual donors, and all sectors, including the private, government, and non-profit sectors to contribute to this good cause.
