Queens Cup Bangkok Airways – SAT Samuigolf Tournament 2013

Bangkok Airways, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Thailand, Thailand PGA and Asian Tour jointly announced Thailand’s upcoming Asian Tour tournament titled Queen’s Cup Bangkok Airways – SAT Samui Golf Tournament 2012  at the press conference held adjacent to the green at the Santiburi Samui Country Club. The tournament is scheduled to take place between 13 – 16 June 2013 at Santiburi Samui Country Club, Samui, Suratthani. The US$300,000 (equivalent to around 10 million baht) tournament, sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Thailand PGA, is the Fourth Queen’s Cup – Asian Tour of the tournament and will be held in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.

Mr. Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, President of Bangkok Airways said, “We are particularly excited to have organised this tournament for the Fifth year in honour of our beloved Queen Sirikit, we have always strived to take Thai golf tournament to the international level. Moreover, the tournament is hoped to draw a larger number of golf enthusiasts which consequently will stimulate Samui’s tourism.

คณะกรรมการจัดการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาระยะไกลประกาศยกเลิกการจัดงาน “2013 Phuket ITU Long Distance Triathlon”

คณะกรรมการจัดไตรกีฬาระยะไกล “2013 Phuket ITU Long Distance Triathlon” ประกาศยกเลิกการจัดการแข่งขัน ซึ่งตามกำหนดการเดิม งานดังกล่าวจะจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 9-10 พ.ย. 2556 ที่บริเวณหาดป่าตอง จ.ภูเก็ต โดยจะมีการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาทั้งสองวันรวมถึง การแข่งขันไตรกีฬาระยะไกลภายใต้สหพันธ์ไตรกีฬานานาชาติ หรือ International Triathlon Union (ITU) ครั้งแรกในประเทศไทย

โดยงานนี้นับเป็นการแข่งขันระดับนานาชาติ ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในซีรีย์ของการแข่งขันไตรกีฬาระยะไกลที่จะจัดขึ้นทั่วโลกของสหพันธ์ไตรกีฬานานาชาติ และได้มีการกำหนดช่วงเวลาการจัดงานนี้ที่ภูเก็ตไว้ในช่วงเดือนพฤศจิกายน 2556 ทั้งนี้ ด้วยข้อจำกัดบางประการที่อยู่นอกเหนือการควบคุมของคณะกรรมการการจัดการแข่งขันฯ จึงมีความเห็นว่า การจะจัดงานใหญ่ระดับโลกนี้ให้มีมาตรฐานระดับสูงตามที่ ITU ได้กำหนดไว้นั้น คงจะไม่สามารถกระทำได้ทันภายในเวลาที่กำหนด คณะกรรมการฯ มีความเสียใจอย่างยิ่งที่ต้องประกาศยกเลิกการแข่งขันครั้งนี้ และจะทำการพิจารณาถึงความเป็นไปได้
อื่น ๆ ในการจัดการแข่งขันใหญ่ระดับโลกลักษณะนี้ขึ้นอีกครั้งที่ภูเก็ตในอนาคต

Laguna Phuket’s Summer Family Festival Attractions Unveiled

Free Soccer School, SNAG® Golf and Zumba Classes Head Array of Exciting Activities

A treasure trove of free activities for youngsters and parents is on offer at this year’s Laguna Phuket Summer Family Festival – including a top-class soccer school, fun kids’ golf lessons and dynamic Zumba fitness classes.

The resort’s Latitude marquee will be transformed into a carnival big top with zoned areas where activities will be staged during days and evenings of the Festival, which launches on Saturday 29 June with a fun “Skool’s Out” party and runs during July and August for Phuket residents, visitors and tourists alike.

Free soccer skills classes are available for both boys and girls aged four to 16 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 10.00am by Phuket Soccer Schools, (PSS) led by head coach Martin Hill, a professionally qualified coach with advanced qualifications from both the English Football Association (FA) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

PSS also offers its individual one-on-one programme after each class at just THB 1,000 for 30 minutes and THB 1,500 for an hour -guaranteeing improvements in players’ techniques and understanding of the world’s most favourite game.

Meanwhile, youngsters with a yen for golf can get hooked on the game with free SNAG® (Starting New At Golf) lessons at Latitude from 10.00am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Australian artist Christopher Hogan returns to teach free art classes at Angsana Laguna Phuket

After a successful stint during Angsana Laguna Phuket’s opening in December 2011, the family-friendly resort is pleased to welcome back the internationally acclaimed Australian artist and designer Christopher Hogan. Throughout the summer month of August, Mr. Hogan will conduct complimentary art classes at the resort’s popular Tree House Kids Club.

Christopher Hogan had previously created a Charity Mural Project to mark the opening of Angsana Laguna Phuket that raised two hundred thousand baht mainly through the generous participation of guests. The funds were used towards the Angsana Youth Artist scholarship which currently supports talented students, majoring in the faculty of arts at Ratchapat Phuket University. He also conducted art classes for young guests during the launch of the resort’s Tree House Kids Club and has been an Artist-in-Residence at the Laguna Phuket Summer Family Festivals, where he staged art classes for local schoolchildren and helped raise thousands of baht for Laguna Phuket’s community programmes.

Mr. Hogan, a specialist in marine-themed abstract paintings, will hold complimentary morning art classes for children visiting the Tree House Kids Club during the summer from 1 to 31 August 2013. His art classes are designed for children and teenagers of all ages. The children and aspiring artists will be exposed to the visual arts including sketching, painting and drawing.

David Hollmann, Director of Recreation at Angsana Laguna Phuket said, “During the launch of Tree House Kids Club in December 2011, the art class was a huge success. Laguna Phuket International Marathon Sees Community Fun and Fund-Raising Amid Variety of Races

Michael Page of theUKwon the eighth Laguna Phuket International Marathon (LPIM) as the annual running festival took to the island’s roads with more than 4,000 entrants of all ages and abilities from 45 countries competing on a variety of distance courses in an atmosphere of community fun and charity fund-raising.

Page finished the 42k marathon in a time of 02: 41:02, followed by Yasuhiro Saito ofJapanin 02:52:01and Panom Khansamol ofThailandin 02:58:23.

His winning LPIM trophy represented a partnership with a new sister race – the Italian 10k Igrani Run – in an initiative by Laguna sponsor the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), which also sponsors the Igrani Run. The trophy was presented by TAT Rome marketing director Sandro Botticelli.

The women’s 42k race was won by Naomi Ochai ofJapanin 03:19:38 with another Japanese, Fumie Terahata second in 03:27:24 and Ninik Sugawati ofIndonesiathird in 03:34:48.

In the half marathon, Thai TV star and aspiring marathoner Krittapas “Krit” Sakdidtanon – the event’s Charity Ambassador – took on the was accompanied by a fund-raising team in a “Charity Caravan” and delighted locals in villages and markets along the course by stopping to collect donations for the Laguna Phuket Foundation.

Funds raised went to LPIM’s “Run for Our Kids” drive, which aims to raise

THB 1million for the Foundation’s support of local schools and communities

Other personalities in LPIM – rounded out by a 10.5k run, the 91.5FM Community Walk and a 2k Kids’ Run – included Australian “Couple on the Run” Andrew and Sue O’Brien, who have run some 80,000 kilometres side-by-side at marathons and ultramarathons around the world; and 79 years-old British veteran Robin Wilson, LPIM’s oldest 42k runner and one of the last home in seven-and-a-half hours to chalk up the 400^th marathon finish of his running career.

Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket gears up for Laguna Phuket International Marathon 2013

Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket will again,in collaboration with the Laguna Phuket Resort Complex,participate in the 2013 Laguna Phuket International Marathon “Run Paradise”on Sunday June 9^th, 2013.

Dusit Thani Launa Phuket volunteers will support the First Aid stations on the race day and cheer on seven colleagues who have signed up for therace.

This year’s event features a 42k marathon, 21.1km half marathon, 10km run, 5km community walk and a 2km kid’s run.  The start line for races is at Laguna Grove, then the course headsto the north of the island, through local villages, past rubber and pineapple plantations, picturesque lagoons and idyllic island views.

This year’s athletes are raising funds for the Laguna Phuket Foundation which supports educational and social development, marine and natural environment conservation, emergency relief and “Fully Booked,” a mobile learning centre. The aim is to collect THB 1 million per year to support these charitable programmes.

Since the event was first staged in 2006, it has become a highlight of the Phuket sporting scene.
From its humble beginnings with less than 2,000 participants, the event has grown to a size of more than 4,000 participants, with an average of 1,500 international participants from 50 countries.
