เป็นงานประเพณีของชาวภูเก็ตที่มีเชื้อสายจีน จะมีพิธีในช่วงเดือน 7 ของจีนหรือเดือน 9 ของไทย โดยมีพิธีเซ่นไหว้บรรพบุรุษและวิญญาณศักดิ์สิทธิ์ด้วยเครื่องบวงสรวง เป็นขนมชนิดหนึ่งทำด้วยแป้งเป็นรูปเต่าขนาดใหญ่บ้างเล็กบ้างทาสีแดง ซึ่งคนจีนเชื่อว่าเต่าเป็นสัตว์ที่มีอายุยืน ดังนั้นการไหว้เต่าจึงเป็นการต่ออายุให้ตนเองและถือเป็นกุศลที่ยิ่งใหญ่

วัดพระใหญ่ “พระพุทธมิ่งมงคลเอกนาคคีรี” คนภูเก็ตนิยมเรียกว่า วัดพระใหญ่ เป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปใหญ่ที่สุดในจังหวัดภูเก็ตตั้งตระหง่านบนยอดเขานาคเกิด วัดแห่งนี้เกิดขึ้นโดยวัดกิตติสังฆาราม (วัดกะตะ) ได้ดำเนินการตามโครงการส่งเสริมให้วัดช่วยงานด้านป่าไม้ เนื้อที่ 42 ไร่ จึงเป็นสถานที่เหมาะสมแก่การประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปปางมารวิชัยขนาดหน้าตักกว้าง 25.45 เมตร สูง 45 เมตร หันไปทางทิศตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ 19 องศา บนยอดเขานาคเกิด ต.กะรน อ.เมือง จ.ภูเก็ต ไว้เป็นที่เคารพบูชาของชาวภูเก็ตและผู้มีจิตศรัทธา

Thao Thep Kasattri-Thao Sri Soontorn Monument Is located at Thalang Port’s intersection roundabout. The people of Phuket got together and built it in 1966 in honor of the heroines of Thalang On the 24th of March, 1967, the statues were placed on the stand which was the very same day the Burmese were forced to retreat 182 years earlier. Later, in the year 1967, it was officially made a monument.
อนุสาวรีย์ท้าวเทพกระษัตรี-ท้าวศรีสุนทร ตั้งอยู่ที่วงเวียนสี่แยกท่าเรืองอำเภอถลาง โดยชาวภูเก็ตร่วมกันสร้างขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2509 เพื่อเชิดชูเกียรติวีรสตรีผู้กล้าหาญแห่งเมืองถลาง ในวันที่ 24 มี.ค. 2510 ได้นำรูปหล่อขึ้นประดิษฐานบนแท่นฐาน เนื่องจากเป็นวันเดียวกับที่กองทัพพม่าแตกทัพถอยหนีไปจากเมืองถลางเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2328 ต่อมาเดือนพฤษภาคม พ.ศ.2510 ได้ประกอบพิธีเปิดอนุสาวรีย์ |

วัดพระทอง อยู่ห่างจากตัวเมือง 21 กิโลเมตร ไปตามถนนเทพกระษัตรี ผ่านสี่แยกอำเภอถลาง ถึงที่ว่าการอำเภอ ทางด้านขวาจะมีทางแยกเข้าวัดพระทอง ซึ่งเป็นที่ประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปทองคำที่โผล่เพียงพระเกตุมาลาขึ้นมาจากพื้นดิน โดยมีตำนานเล่าว่าเดิมบริเวณที่ตั้งวัดเป็นทุ่งเลี้ยงสัตว์ มีเด็กเลี้ยงควายนำเชือกล่ามควายไปผูกกับหลักที่โผล่มาจากพื้นดิน โดยไม่ทราบว่าหลักที่โผล่มานั้นคือพระเกตุมาลาของพระพุทธรูป หลังจากนั้นเด็กก็ล้มเจ็บและตายลงในที่สุด พ่อของเด็กฝันว่าที่เด็กตายเพราะนำเชือกล่ามควายไปผูกกับพระเกตุมาลาของพระพุทธรูป จึงชักชวนชาวบ้านช่วยกันขุดหาก็พบจริง แต่ไม่สามารถขุดขึ้นมาได้ ต่อมาในสมัยพระเจ้าปดุงกษัตริย์พม่ายกทัพมาตีเมืองถลางเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2328 ทหารพม่าก็พยายามขุดพระผุดขึ้นมาเพื่อนำกลับพม่า แต่ไม่สำเร็จกลับโดนฝูงแตนไล่ต่อย ซึ่งต่อมาชาวบ้านจึงก่อพระพุทธรูปครึ่งองค์ครอบไว้ดังปรากฏอยู่ทุกวันนี้ นอกจากนี้ยังเป็นที่ตั้งของ “พิพิธภัณฑ์สถานวัดพระทอง” เป็นที่รวบรวมโบราณวัตถุข้าวของเครื่องใช้ของชาวภูเก็ต เช่น “จังซุ่ย” เสื้อกันฝนชาวเหมืองแร่ดีบุก รองเท้าตีนตุกของสตรีเชื้อสายจีนที่ต้องมัดเท้าให้เล็กตามค่านิยมของสังคมสมัยนั้น |

Pra Tong Temple Pra Tong Temple is located 21 kilometers from the city. To get there, take Thep Kasattri Road passing Amphur Thalang intersection. When you get to the Administrative Office, there is a path on the right which leads to the Pra Tong Temple. Inside, there is a golden Buddha statue with only the top of the cranium protruding from the earth. According to legend , the original land was a farm area where one day, a boy tied his buffalo to what appeared to be a post. He didn’t realize that the post was the top of the Buddha statue’s head. Sometime later, he fell ill and died. The boy’s father later had a revelation in a dream of his boy’s death so he and the neighbors tried to unearth the statue from the ground but were unsuccessful. In 1785, during the reign of Prachao Padung, the Burmese king led his troop to Siam in the hopes to conquer Thalang. The Burmese also tried in vain to dig up the statue to bring back to Burma but instead were chased away by the people. Later, the villagers decided to construct half a statue and placed it over the original one. The temple also houses Wat Pra Tong Museum which has a collection of ancient artifacts of the Phuket locals such as ‘Jung Sui’ (miners’ rain coat), tin, binding shoes for ancient Chinese women and more. |
